Castle Douglas Galloway Show and Sale – 14th and 15th February, 2008.
It has taken 4 generations for the name of Wallace of Fingland to appear on the Male Champion trophy, and a delighted Jimmy Wallace, Fingland, Dalry, Castle Douglas secured this prestigious honour with Ronaldo of Fingland a April, 2006 born, this Beckham of Finland son, came through from the 2 year old championship, purchased by J & J W Ions, Thrnyburn, Falstone, Hexham . The Reserve Male Champion, was the extensively shown Klondyke Nimrod from Klondyke Farms, Shancastle, Moniaive, Thornhill, Dumfriesshire and is off home to the Ben Lomond herd belonging to well known breeders J, M & D Maxwell, Blairvockie, Rowardennan, Drymen for 4000gns.
In the female championship it was Drumhumphry Janice 350 exhibited by Drew, Betty and Peter Brown, Drumhumphry, Corsock, Castle Douglas, which secured the top silverware and the top price. German breeder Bern Schlichterle purchased this November 2004 born, Blackcraig Idol daughter for 2600gns. He also takes to home to Germany the reserve female, Countess Nolene of Nether Cleugh, exhibited by Peter Hunter Blair, Nether Cleugh, Dalry, Castle DouglasThis Knightrider of Nether Cleugh daughter was purchased for 1500gns.
All but one of the females were sold, with 5 going to Germany and 4 travelling across the water to Ireland, this sale, exceeded all vendors expectations with many purchasers going home empty handed. With 16 Galloways confirmed for an order for Poland and the hope of more to be sourced for export to Poland, it is hoped more cattle will be forward for the next Society Sale.
