CARLISLE PEDIGREE AUTUMN SHOW AND  SALE –
FRIDAY 9TH NOVEMBER 2012

Judges:-Hannah Dickinson, Brockstone, Kentmere & Alan Nison, Union Road, Gretna, Dumfriesshire. 

 A packed ringside of both new and existing purchasers saw increased averages and  98% clearance  at the Society sale held  Harrison & Hetherington’s, Carlisle sale centre.      With the wet weather and lack of fodder still on people minds, it was pleasing to see cattle keenly bid for, with many people going home empty handed and will be looking for cattle in the spring. 

Once again the trophies were keenly contested,  the female champion and winner of the Marshall Jackson Cup was from local exhibitor  Mr Gordon Kyle, Spoutbank Farm, Walton, Carlisle, Cumbria with a  three year old heifer with Bluegrey calf at foot, Hilary of Spoutbank* which was bred by Mr J D Brown, Bridgemark, Dalry.  She is a Norrie of Romesbeoch daughter and sold to the judge Hannah Dickinson for  B Dickinson & Co, Kendal  for 1400gns. 

The reserve female was from  Mr Peter Jackson, Roan Farm, Newcastleton, Roxburghshire, Roan Border Michelle a 2010 born senior bulling heifer,   is by Huntly Oddball and out of a home bred cow, Roan Border Alice.   She sold to regular purchaser   M/s White, Hartsgarth, Newcastleton for 1200gns

The best price in the pedigree section was from  Society Chairman Mr Andrew Waugh’s Kilnstown herd with  1720gns for Bridget 20th of Kilnstown, this AI sire Orinocho of Over Barskeoch daughter is off home with Mr M Harding, Allendale, Hexham.

Next, at 1,400gns, was Lilac 16th of Miefield from Mr W McMorran, Kirkcudbright. A daughter of Zeppelin of High Creoch, she sold with a 9-week old Bluegrey bull calf at foot to A Haggas, Skipton, North Yorkshire.
Following this was a run of three in-calf/in-milk heifers from Mr GJ  Kyle, Walton, Cumbria which all commanded 1,400gns. Hilary of Spoutbank the Female Champion. Drumlea Rose, a Boris of Haining House daughter was bid to the same price, closely followed by Drumlea Dusky Rose, sired by Popeye of Over Barskeoch. Picking up all three was B Dickinson & Co, Kendal, Cumbria.
