GREAT YORKSHIRE SHOW 11TH, 12TH, & 13TH JULY, 2017

Judge:   Mr John Heard,  Hughslade Farm, Okehampton, Devon

Silverbell takes gold at Yorkshire show.

With one of the largest entries of Galloways forward in recent years  it was disappointing a wet day awaited our old and new exhibitors, but as always a very warm welcome from our hosts David, Debs, Emma and Will at the Galloway bar made up for the rain.

The Breed Champion and Junior Champion was Lady Silverbell 12th of Gall-way she was exhibited by  J & S Wareham, Little Tottingworth Farm, Broadoak, Heathfield, East Sussex. This junior heifer born September 2016 was purchased by Jason and Sarah from Dennis and Margaret Gall on their retirement.  Lady Silverbell is by Lochnagar of Gall-way and out of the Lady  Silverbell 6th of Gall-way, which goes back to the Silverbell family from the famous Corrie herd.  This very stylish heifer came from a   class of  8 junior heifers, the largest class of the day and one of the largest classes of Galloways seen at the Yorkshire Show in recent times.  The following day,  Lady Silverbell was again in the awards receiving the reserve interbreed junior championship, just behind the Limousin heifer.

The reserve and male champion Turbo Tam of Nether Cleugh was from Jim and Selina Ross, Romesbeoch, Shawhead, this November 2011 born senior bull is by Blackcraig Quest and out of Nerys Patricia of Nether Cleugh.  He was second to the champion at the 2017 Royal Highland Show.

The reserve female was the far travelled Blackcraig Bertha U452 from Mrs H Heerema, Balavil Estate, Balavil, Kingussie, Inverness shire, this September 2012 born Blackcraig Rasputin daughter was shown with her bull calf -  Strath Urr Yogi  at foot and very able shown by stockman Robert Marshall and daughter Ashley.

The reserve male champion was Coldplay of Fingland exhibited by Klondyke Farms Ltd, Shancastle, Moniaive and Kilnstown Farms Ltd, Bewcastle, Cumbria.  This April 2011 born bull is the senior stock sire at Klondyke and is by Kirmabreck Monarch and out of Lady Polka 1st of Fingland

The Galloway breed were represented for the first time in many years in the all the interbreed team awards, pair, interbreed, group and junior group and we are delighted to report the group of Turbo Tam of Nether Cleugh, Blackcraig Bertha and  the pairs champion Sensation 1st of Troloss and Nancy 1st of Troloss were third in the interbreed Beef Group competition.

Once again David and Debs Heath kindly donated £100 for the new exhibitor  award, this year with more entries than in past years, there were three new exhibitor forward.    The winner of this award was  Troloss Farms, Elvanfoot, Biggar.

A very special thanks to David, Debs, Emma and Will for organizing the “Galloway Bar”  we  are very well looked after in our home from home,   it always surprises me how many people (and calf) we can get in that small “office”.
